Regional Ministry of Health to Award PTS Hospital Equipment Contract

The Autonomous Government of Andalusia will this month award the contract for the supply of equipment for the new hospital in the Granada Health Science Technological Park (PTS). The contract awarding committee has now completed its discussions and is awaiting legal advice and approval of the reports by the Public Accounts department. The hospital could therefore open its doors in spring 2016.

Aquilino Alonso.

The announcement was made by the Regional Minister of Health, Aquilino Alonso, during a visit to Granada to find out about Ipharma, the electronic drug dispensing system installed in the pharmacy of the city's Clinical Hospital. According to Mr Alonso, once the name of the company to be awarded the contract is announced, the details of the transfer process from the current San Cecilio hospital to the new hospital in the PTS will be finalised so that work can begin.

Mr Alonso said that from now on continuous progress will be made on the transfer process as some medical services may start to be relocated over the next few months. He went on to say that the company selected for the contract "will have seven months to complete the transfer of hospital services to the new PTS hospital, although the deadline could be altered or extended if required to ensure continuity of care."

Mr Alonso also spoke about how complex the hospital transfer process will be, as it involves moving patients as well as relocating healthcare personnel. According to the Andalusian Health Service, some 3,300 employees will be moving to the new hospital.

The company in charge of the transfer process will be awarded an initial contract worth 77.6 million euros to provide all the equipment for the PTS hospital and move all of the services currently at the Clinical and Virgen de las Nieves hospitals to the new one. The new hospital is expected to accommodate the following departments: Traumatology, Angiology and Vascular Surgery, Dermatology, ENT, the Major Outpatient Surgery Unit, Internal Medicine and Mental Health.

The company awarded the contract will have to provide training for hospital staff on the use of all the equipment and new technologies installed in the hospital, and will be responsible for equipment maintenance for eight years.
