Andalusia's Regional Minister of Finance and Knowledge, Antonio Ramírez de Arellano, has highlighted the importance of innovation to create companies that are "stronger, bigger and able to compete on an equal footing in the international market". His remarks were made during a visit to Unit4 R&D, a company based in the Granada Health Science Technological Park (PTS). During his visit to the PTS, Antonio Ramírez de Arellano talked about the importance of the work done by Unit4 R&D, describing it as "a company that demonstrates our ability to compete at the international level, through research and development in ICT, a business initiative that first started in Granada two decades ago and is now part of a multinational project, competing with companies as prestigious as Microsoft and Oracle."

According to the Minister of Finance, the business management software the company develops is used in companies in around a hundred countries. Unit4 R&D has "a powerful workforce, mostly engineers from and trained in Granada, Jaén and Almería. It currently employs 165 people, four times as many as four years ago, and it is hoped the workforce will continue to grow in the future."

Unit4 R&D is a subsidiary of Dutch multinational ICT company Unit4, which specialises in the development and sale of ERP business-management applications. More specifically, Unit4 R&D focuses on research and development to improve the Unit4 Business World application. The Granada-based subsidiary is the result of a business initiative launched in 1995 that became part of Unit4 in 2004 after a series of mergers and acquisitions
