Opening Date Announced for New PTS Hospital Facilities
Andalusia's Regional Minister of Health, Aquilino Alonso, has announced that the new hospital facilities in the Granada Health Science Technological Park (PTS) will open in June this year. The hospital's new facilities will include the intensive care unit, accident and emergency department, and inpatient surgery department. The opening date will coincide with a period of lower patient numbers during the summer months.
Aquilino Alonso made the announcement at the 'Challenges in Health' forum organised by regional newspaper Ideal and sponsored by pharmaceutical company Rovi. He also announced that the new PTS hospital is set to launch a series of innovative projects related to digital pathology and telepathology, a medical sample image digitalisation system that will allow hospital staff to collaborate remotely with professionals at other leading healthcare facilities. According to Mr Alonso, "the PTS hospital will be equipped with the most advanced systems, currently only available at five hospitals around the world, including Mount Sinai Hospital in New York."
A large part of the Health Minister's speech at the event focused on the Granada Health brand, which aims to promote the biotechnology sector and act as a catalyst for the creation of synergies between private companies, public research centres and research teams formed at the University of Granada. Mr Alonso said that "there are currently 29 biotechnology companies in Granada, particularly in the PTS, putting the city at the forefront of the sector in Europe."
