Andalusian President Highlights Granada’s Cybersecurity Export Potential

The President of the Autonomous Government of Andalusia, Susana Díaz, has remarked that Andalusia's promising new technologies could lead to “cybersecurity with an Andalusian touch” being exported all over the world. Ms Díaz's comments came during a visit to Telefónica's cybersecurity facility located in the R&D Building of the Granada Health Science Technological Park (PTS).

The Telefónica centre's mission is to prevent possible cyberattacks and is home to the Labs area of ElevenPaths, the company's cybersecurity unit dedicated to researching, producing, monitoring, patenting and exporting cybersecurity technologies.

Susana Díaz highlighted that Andalusia's commitment to new technologies over recent years means that it can now export its own home-grown cybersecurity products, from Granada as well as from secondary facilities in Jaén, Seville and Málaga, to the rest of Europe and other parts of the world, including Latin America.

During her visit to the PTS, Ms Díaz also called for technological change to be tackled using public/private partnerships, amongst other measures, underlining that the decisions made and approaches selected now will determine whether the digital divide will widen or narrow in the future.

Because security matters affect all of the company's various products and processes, Telefónica's cybersecurity unit covers many different areas of IT security. It focuses primarily on analysing network traffic to uncover malware, general mobile platform security, user privacy, improving user authentication and identification, blockchain, browser security and automated verification systems. It works on a wide range of activities, including research projects related to the company's products and services, developing patents, technology transfer and proof of concept design, as well as providing tools and general information for the community.
