MedinBio Forum at PTS: Progress and Opportunities in Biohealth

The second annual MedinBio Forum was held this week at the Granada Health Science Technological Park (PTS), hosted by the PTS Andalusian Public Foundation. Bringing together around fifty professionals, scientists, researchers and representatives from Spanish biohealth and biotechnology companies and institutions, the aim of the forum was to promote the exchange of scientific and technological knowledge related to the field of life sciences.

Attendees at the event shared their views on topics such as biomedicine, biochemistry, bioinformatics, nutrition and sports sciences, amongst other health-related subjects.

María Ogayar, from the PTS Foundation's technology transfer department, opened the forum with a few words about the “commitment to healthcare technology” of the PTS, remarking that the Park is “a benchmark in Spain for the creation, establishment and expansion of technology-based companies, transforming knowledge into economic and social development, especially in sectors like the pharmaceutical, biohealth and healthcare sectors.”

The aim of MedinBio is to bring together professionals working in different life science disciplines so that they can discuss the services they need and forge partnerships and connections. Forum attendees shared their work and ideas in sessions of various formats, including elevator pitches to potential clients or stakeholders, talks on specific topics, networking sessions and a series of meetings.

The forum schedule also included two training workshops run by representatives from ICEX Spain Trade and Investment, part of the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, who provided useful information about international expansion relevant to the projects and companies present.

The primary aims of MedinBio 2018 were to promote links between related areas, share scientific and technological ideas, generate synergies and find out about the latest trends and advances in biomedicine. The first MedinBio forum was held last year at the request of entrepreneurs, SMEs and research centres run by the University of Granada and other institutions in the PTS.
